{"id":822,"date":"2011-02-03T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-03T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/doenges.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/03\/using-pocketwizard-flextt5minitt1-with-non-canon-cameras"},"modified":"2011-02-03T20:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-03T18:00:00","slug":"using-pocketwizard-flextt5minitt1-with-non-canon-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/doenges.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/03\/using-pocketwizard-flextt5minitt1-with-non-canon-cameras","title":{"rendered":"Using PocketWizard FlexTT5\/MiniTT1 with non-Canon Cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you want to use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketwizard.com\/\">PocketWizard<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketwizard.com\/products\/transmitter_receiver\/flextt5-canon\/\">FlexTT5<\/a>\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketwizard.com\/products\/transmitter_receiver\/minitt1-canon\/\">MiniTT1<\/a> on a non-Canon (make that non-Nikon if you have the recently released Nikon version) camera, you can do so by using <i>Basic Trigger Mode<\/i> which has been available starting with FW 4.100.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s quite simple to set up, if you know the magic sauce.<\/p>\n<p>We will set Basic Trigger Mode in configuration C2. That way configuration C1 will remain available for use in ETTL mode. To keep things simple, we\u2019ll use a MiniTT1 as transmitter and a FlexTT5 as receiver. You can actually use many FlexTT5 to drive multiple flash units. In this case, repeat the procedure for the FlexTT5 described below for every unit.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3>MiniTT1 (Transmitter)<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Start the \u201cPocket Wizard Utility\u201d on your computer. The screenshots below are from version 1.35. Other versions may differ a little. You can download the utility <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pocketwizard.com\/support\/downloads\/\">here<\/a> for Mac and Windows.<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hook up the MiniTT1 to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The MiniTT1 should be turned <b>OFF<\/b>.<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Go to <i>Configuration C2 >> Channel<\/i> and set the <i>Standard Transmit Channel<\/i>. You can leave the PocketWizard Utility running, just remember to turn of the FlexTT5.<br \/>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Go to <i>Configuration C2 >> Channel<\/i> and <b>uncheck<\/b> <i>Use ControlTL for Receive Channel<\/i>. Then set the <i>Standard Receive Channel<\/i> to the same channel you used as the <i>Standard Transmit Channel<\/i> in step 3. In this example, I used 7.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_o-gkIc1m32c\/TUrbjQtn1_I\/AAAAAAAAAEs\/DGPk95Av_YA\/s1600\/PocketWizardUtility-rx-channel-selection.png\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"244\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_o-gkIc1m32c\/TUrbjQtn1_I\/AAAAAAAAAEs\/DGPk95Av_YA\/s400\/PocketWizardUtility-rx-channel-selection.png\" width=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Press the button Apply Changes, confirm the question in the dialog box, and wait until the changes have been written to the device.<\/p>\n<p>You are done with the receiver.<\/p>\n<p>Repeat the receiver procedure with any other receivers you want to trigger simultaneously.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s test it to see if it works:<\/p>\n<p>Hook up a flash to the FlexTT5, turn on the flash, and set it to M (manual mode). Then turn on the FlexTT5 to setting C2.<\/p>\n<p>Next, attach the MiniTT1 to the hot shoe of your camera and turn it on to setting C2. Then turn on the camera.<\/p>\n<p>If you press the camera shutter release button, the flash should fire.
